چکیده
Abstract Evidence suggests that natural resources have driven conflict and underdevelopment in modern Africa. We show this relationship exists primarily when neighboring regions are resource-rich. When neighbors resource-poor, own instead drive economic growth. To motivate the empirical study of set facts, we present a simple model parties engaged potential over resources, revealing prosperity is function equilibrium prevalence, determined not just by region's but also its neighbors. Structural estimates confirm model's predictions, reveal equilibria more prevalent where institutional quality worse.
